Re: Western Films

The Westerns is a fiction based art, that are devoted to tell a story. Its sets primarily in the half of the 19th century in what became the Western of The United States or for you old youngens the American Old West or Wild West. Most Westerns have an official hero and an outlaw hero. Westerns usually often portray how primitive and obsolete ways of life confronted modern technological or social changes. This may be depicted by showing conflict between natives and settlers or U.S Cavalry or between sheep and cattle farmers, or by showing ranchers being threatened by the onset of the Industrial Revolution. The Man who shot Liberty Valance is classified to be a western because well its directed by one of the most Western Directors John Ford, and the overall bad-ass in every western movie John Wayne. The Story takes in the Western of the United States, even though it was a spaghetti-western, and there is a total conflict with society in the city and people.

Film Noir

1. For me Film Noir is a cinematic term used to describe stylish Hollywood crime dramas, particularly those that emphasize cynical attitudes and sexual motivations.

2. For critics Film Noir is not a genre its a way of art in the making of the dark ages of cinema

3. All the films I have seen that are film noir is Double Indemnity, and Blade Runner. Fritz Lang, and Otto Preminger.

Film Studies Binder Check

1. I have organized my binder, Chronologically how Mr. Schreiber gave me the papers

2. We do very informative assignments. We study movies from head to toe, on how we look at things in a very imperfect point of view.

3. We are at 1940 - 1945. Where Orson Welles makes Citizen Kane, and during World War II, propoganda films are made for the first time en masse.

4. Yes, it has changed. I used to think films were boring, but actually they seem to be living beings and that they represent the true artist in a director

5. We have done impressing projects, that really help us on how to understand the history of film and film techniques.

Film Techniques: Shaun of the Dead

In the movie Shaun of the Dead, there are many angles that give the suspense of the movie more surreal and give you a good one or two jumps of your seat. The Camera movement is superb, it goes from a long shot into a zoomed in close-up. There are some Montages, but some just depict what the action is going to be about(e.g. When Liz was telling the group how to act like a zombie, and then they actually tested the action). The Film Techniques are great too how they make the suspense to combine with the camera movement.

Horror Movies

My Favorite Horror Movie would be the "Dawn Of The Dead" movie from 1978. Scary to me is not the way how a character that is "supposed" to scare you, pop up from nowhere, but how it builds suspense to the final action of what that character does. They would probably use low keys, lightning in the background, tracking shots, close ups, medium shots.

Civil Disobedience

I am against the fact that the government classifies ordinary people racially. Like if a person stole something from a market, and another person of colored skin, they would blame the guy of colored skin automatically after they get out of the store. Well some ideas like Martin Luther, like hunger strikes, stop buying stuff on big corporations having a relationship with government.

Gangster Movies

Gangster Movies in America have come and gone. The popularity of these genre type movies are very describable on how people lived in those days and how a "family" stays together no matter what. It sort of does say something about our culture, that maybe there was a rebellion against the government or just having some one owing you money and just shoot people with your 34 Caliber Tommy gun, its simple as that. What is really common in Gangster Movies are very dull, the hero is introduced while the movie goes on. The outlaw is known for doing something bad, and then the outlaw dies at the end.

Introduction to Essay

Could there be a connection with Comedy films and Science Fiction films? Well what I have seen by the two examples of films, Metropolis and Modern times, there are some differences and some similarities between the two. In Metropolis, its known for its Chiaroscuro lighting, and for the special effects it has. Modern Times on the other hand has incredible sound effects, and overall it is a movie that leaves people laughing to the actions of Chaplin. Both movies have a great way to express each others feelings, but they have something more in common for having the same style to reflect the desperate working conditions of their era.

When I Met You

When i met you, i didn't know what else to think just beauty at its limits. It was funny how you and me were talking about how we would be so happy together, you got happy so i got happy. You were telling me all these questions that i have not heard of, and it made me L♥VE YOU even more. I would have dreams of us together. Till' the day i finally got the guts to ask you out I was amazed of what you said; "yes!". I was so happy, i felt like the king of the world for having you in my heart. But it teared me apart when you gave me the note. It turned me from the king of the world; to the fool that the world laughs at. It was horrifying for me to hear it. But it was really amazing how you still said if i am mad at you. I said no, because i knew how much i still liked you, even though you still crushed my heart. Well i wish you could read this Bertha.

The Crucible Thesis Statements

In the story The Crucible by Arthur Miller, reputation is a very big deal to the people

in Salem. This is a very true thesis, i believe this as well. This is a decent one, it tells you about the book, and shows what they are talking about. I might have used this next to the quote, its hooks a little bit but also it tells how puritan life was typically lived.

The play "The Crucible" by Arthur Miller is all about reputation. Not quite as true of the last one, the story is not all revolved around reputation, reputation plays a big part in the puritan life, however. This wasn't as good as the others, it is in a way wrong. The puritan life style was not only revolved around reputation, and the book, The Crucible was also not revolved around only reputation. I don't think i would have used this one at all. Its a bit inaccurate.

Metropolis and Modern Times Quotes

"Modern Times" was Charlie's first film after five years of hibernation in the 1930's.

I go to a lot of movies, and I can't remember the last time I heard a paying audience actually applaud at the end of the film.

He has proved his greatness in every possible way.

A lot of movies are said to be timeless, but somehow in their immortality they fail to draw audiences.

One of the many remarkable things about Charlie Chaplin is that his films continue to hold up, to attract and delight audiences.

The movie has a plot that defines common sense.

Lang develops this story with scenes of astonishing originality.

Much of what we see in "Metropolis" doesn't exist except in visual trickery.

``Metropolis'' employed vast sets, 25,000 extras and astonishing special effects to create two worlds: the great city of Metropolis, with its stadiums, skyscrapers and expressways in the sky, and the subterranean workers' city, where the clock face shows 10 hours to cram another day into the workweek

And the device of the ``false Maria,'' the robot who looks like a human being, inspired the ``Replicants'' of ``Blade Runner.'' Even Rotwang's artificial hand was given homage in ``Dr. Strangelove.''

Parallel Sequencing of Modern Times and Metropolis

The movie Metropolis is very interesting. Its a silent film movie, and its in black and white. It is a Science Fiction film, and at that time science fiction was very new to the up and coming movie genres. The main character is Joh Frederer. He is trying to figure out the social crisis between workers and the owners in capitalism. The film stars Freder as the leader of the city, Joh as his son, who tries to mediate between the elite caste and the workers.

Then there is the movie Modern Times. Went it came to the big screen, everyone knew that it would be funny. This film is a Comedy which made everyone laugh, and laugh and well laugh. The film is a comment on the desperate employment and fiscal conditions many people faced during the Great Depression, conditions created, in Chaplin's view, by the efficiencies of modern industrialization. The movie stars Chaplin.

Integrated Comparison of Metropolis, Modern Times

Metropolis and Modern Times are tow very different movies, but they both have similarities. The similarities between both of them is that they were made possibly at the sametime, both of them show workers and factories. but Metropolis and Modern Times are two different genre types, as in Metropolis is a science fiction and Modern Times is comedy. The acting in both movies are very realistic but Modern times makes it seem like that they do the acting on accident.

Re: Review of Roots Poem

Acting is alright
But without Audio its tight
You could give credit to Chaplin
He could never dictate, they thought he was a goblin
Maybe I should start Graphing
So you could start locking
He never got a manicure
And a pedicure
He motivated many
He made the population do Cacophony
He exported laughter all over the world
He never likes signing or else he will hurl
He always speculated
Once got trapped in a tractor, and he almost got beheaded
He got it on video, it was refined
And It revolved around the human mind

Star Wars and D.W. Griffith

George Lucas uses many film techniques like cross cutting, building suspense, special effects, close ups, long shots, and medium shots, and some low keys as well. George Lucas compared to D.W. Griffith is quite the same but at the time that Lucas made Star Wars they had more editing technique and a lot of money in to the foundation of the first early Star Wars movie, but D.W. Griffith did not have that much money, but he did have good close ups and overall good Cross Cutting techniques.

Re: Comedy

My type of comedy movie would be the Mexican Cinema kind. Like Cantinflas. I love physical comedies. I have not really seen any British Comedies, but I have heard that they are very funny. Yes, I do like comedies with stunts. No, I don't really get why they make teen movies because they are just saying " Hey do this and you might just get laid :D ", and I just do not get them. The thing that really makes me laugh would be just physical comedy, and just like saying funny phrases.

Re: Favorite Movie in the Last Month

One of my favorite movies from last month that I have seen would be, El Orfanato. They use a little bit of light but not that much. It has a lot of similarities with German Expressionism, like how they use Chiaroscuro in a lot of scenes. The set was actually in a Orphanage in Mexico. The Acting was very realistic, showed a lot of emotion and tense. Overall, it was a kick-ass movie!

Re: Science Fiction

Some Science Fiction movies I have seen up to this point are Star Wars, Star Trek, the 5th Element, Blade Runner, Destination Moon, The Road Warrior, 2001: A Space Odyssey, ET, Minority Report, and Gattaca. Some characters are just simple, and some are just plain weird.

Re: Are Ideas Worth a Life?

The only idea that is worth a life is practically just Freedom. Its plain and simple. Without freedom we would probably live in a communist government. Without Freedom, we would not have political systems or religious rights, or even have an option to do something.

German Expressionism

The Germans had a very unique way to express their feelings through just a camera and a few cuts of film strips. They really were sort of addicted to making Terror Movies, Horror Movies, and well movies that will just shock you and soil your pants in some occasions. Some good examples would be Das Cabinet des Dr. Caligari, and Metropolis.

Film Innovations Up to This Point

The first picture on the right is Battleship Potemkin. This film was directed by Sergei Eisenstein, and this movie really got famous by the close ups, to long shots that Eisentein had, and the montage from horizontal to vertical. The second picture is called A Trip to the Moon, and was directed by Georges Mélies, and this movie was shot at a standard frame rate, and it used a lot of animation and special effects, and it was one of the first science fiction film. The last one is by the outstanding Lumiére Brothers. This movie was called I think The Train Stop, and this film was one of the first films like made.

Rumors

Really, I have not heard of any rumors lately, and if I have heard rumors I would immediately think that its not true in anyway.

The Crucible

Yes, I have lost trust in somebody very dear to me, but now I don't even care for her. It changed in an instant, I cared for her in like almost 5 years, and well it looks like it was just 5 wasted years, because later she was cheating with me, with this other guy over in Texas. I tried many times before and well it looks like it was fake.

Wheres My Present?

Presents are one of the most grateful things that a person can give to another person in return for anything that the person has done to them or what the person has done for himself. Well for me i try everything but somehow i do not get nothing in return. I still have the haunting that when i was 8 years old, and the whole family would be together and everybody would give presents to each other, and what scared me was when the 2 most favorite little girls in the family which had the age of 9 and 10 would get all the presents they wanted, like a PS2, and a gameboy, expensive toys and i would always wanted to get one of those because i would see them rarely in person, but they would be so spoiled, and they are still daddy's little angel till' this day, and so what i would get was a little 5 dollar lego and some pencils and i still remember that people would be saying behind my back "Oh! We forgot Armandito's present . . . Oh well!" and they would ditch me, and the only thing that i remember after that is that i was crying in my room at night and i would cry myself to sleep. And still till this day i still don't get the present i desire, i would get shirts but people would give me an extra small shirt and they rather keep the returning money instead of giving me half of the money. And rarely i hear people getting Ipods, cell phones, computers, and i wouldn't get none of that, and i always thought to myself "am i still going to live this strange illusion?" and it seems that i still live that haunting illusion. And now that i have brothers they would get more than what they should be getting. And my mom wouldn't give me a true gift. But my little brothers, theyre always favorite. And I feel kind of invisible to them rite know because my parents would go on a shopping spree to get them stuff for them and i would get like 1 shirt rarely on the discount isle and they would get 50 dollar t shirts. So now i would be working my ass off in my job at Pep Boys to get what i want and what i need, when i got my first hard earned check, i bought myself a new computer :D, and later i plan to get a guitar but it seems so far because i have to give 75% of my check to my mom for credit card debts because my family still cant pay all of the debts we owe. i just feel invisible. Well hopefully an Angel comes to me and gives me a gift, of Love. thanks for reading. =]

Hurt . . .

I have never had this feeling, what i have heard is only the true people that did their best in this so called "relationship" get to feel this kind of emotion that really exists in the back of our mind, just sitting there waiting to kill you softly until you want to burst into tears. Im not in that stage yet. What happened to me was just a couple of events leading up for me getting hurt. Hurt in the english dictionary means cause physical pain or injury to intrans [parts of the body]. This has hurt me not only physically, but more mentally, and yes it hit me in a body part, my caring heart. "She" has not talked to me since i have read the comment on her page, and I guess were friends now, i can not say "babe" anymore or "hun" to her, I feel so alone. Hopefully we are still friends, after all, we still love each other. Now i have to talk to her normally not with a caring tone. I have to talk to her with only her real name, also she was my first kiss, my walls are closing in, only listening to her name makes me want to cry. Just never had this feeling. Hi my name is Armando and I "have" been cheated on. :[

La Batería

Somehow i hate my drummer that "was" in my band a lot more when he was in the band. Well when i met him he was nice, one of those kids that was laid back and never would of thought of how much he wanted to take revenge. Well in sophomore year, he has "matured" and know he takes things literal. When ever he gets mad at some of us, he stares at us like as if we "murdered" his mom, or whenever we put him into a joke he looks like if we just "pissed" him off. Well let me tell you the story, It happened more than a month ago when the tulips bloomed and the name of winter did not come to mind, i was pondering in my class of what name should our band be named of and one of my friends said "The Pencil heads" and everybody was just saying random stuff in the circle, but then i thought more clearer of a past event that happened to me and its really jotted down in my head of the death of my little nephew that "got shot in east la" and well i was thinking of that sentence and came up with the name "Got Shot In East LA". I ran as fast as i can to my friends and told them "hey i got the name", they were looking really confused and i said "Got Shot In East LA", they were laughing but then the mist cleared up for them and they said "Alright". So after that happened we thought of who would be who and who would play what: Nairda as Lead Guitar, me as Bass, Ttam as Vocals, and "the drummer" drums. So we agreed on this and weeks later my parents told me that i can get a bass if my grades are good so i got that covered, and "the drummer" has no drums [ I know pretty stupid rite?]. So weeks later I see him playing the air drums like a psycho like every ten seconds, all that he was saying was "ta, ta, to, to, tu, binck, binck, [as in drum noises], and I see him and say calm down "Drummer", and somehow he gets offended and punches me. Later on I meet some girls [they were really friendly :)] and they wanted to know me, suddenly i see "the drummer" getting really jealous so later on he gets really intimate with each one, and yeah i was really pissed off because none of them talked to me, besides only one [but then she turned to "the drummers" side and left me alone :(] in the meanwhile he has been missing practice like a lot, and somehow he has been hanging out with different girls and he just made me really sick [because he is still with a girl, and he is hitting on other girls]. Then later on i get on myspace mobile, and i see comments on my [not so] "girlfriends" comments that are saying "Oh i did not know you are with Armando sorry", and i was guessing he was trying to ask her out. So rite then i was really pissed, i had a feeling to kick him out of the band for being to 'efin "COCKY". But later on he kicked himself out for being a dumb ass. Later on me and some friends were joking around with him and i slided a guitar tuner to him and then he picked it up and threw it at me, my mind was really going crazy and i told him the real words that came to my mind "What the F*ck ya dumb ass, cocky ass, son of a b*tch!", and after that everybody was laughing and "the drummer" finally was shutting up. And lately we rarely talk now a days, and yes he is still cheating on his girl. and i told myself "I know witnessed the change of one self-human being and taught myself that cockiness doesn't make you go nowhere"

Keep it PUNK !

Music has been a big part in my life since i left to East LA. And the one that stands out the most is Punk rock. Like how much history was in the making, how memorable people died to put their music in history or even a young mans life [like mine], since then i felt like a rebel and i came out with hi skate black checkered Vans shoes, a 30 x 34 [yeah that is my true pant size] pair of Levis, and a Band tee of the Ramones, and a belt buckle of the Misfits. And for you fellow "Puck rock Virgins", Punk Rock is a genre that developed in between 1974 and 1976 in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Australia. It was rooted in garage rock and other forms of what is now known as "proto punk" music, punk rock bands eschewed the perceived excesses of mainstream 1970's rock. They created fast, hard edged music, typically with short songs with many bands self-producing their recordings and distributing them through informal channels, if you know what i mean ['wink 'wink]. By late 1976, bands such as the Ramones, in the big apple, and the Sex Pistols and The Clash from London, they were all recognized as the vanguard of a new musical movement. The next year Rock spread around the world. Punk suddenly, became a major Cultural phenomenon in the United Kingdom. For the most part, punk took root in local scenes that tended to reject association with the mainstream. An associated punk subculture emerged, expressing clothing styles and a variety of anti-authoritian ideoligies. By the beginning of 1980, it  got more aggressive and hardcore and they came with the dumbest bands of all like -Green day-, or -the offspring-, these bands really make me sick. Punk for me has been and will be in my heart.

Our Band : "Got shot in East LA"

WEll in the past weeks me and my buddys, were thinking of making a band. And well we went for it. with the help of our "manager" Mr. Thompson. We might make it to the bigs. So were practicing everyday in Mr. Thompsons room the whole lunch and before school. This feeling is really great. The Members are: Ramon: Drums, Adrian: Lead Guitar, Matt: Rythym Guitar, and me Armando: Bass and probably Vocals? Well anyways, we are getting pretty good we just need Ramon getting his Drums, and me to find the right Bass Guitar but we have that covered. So Mr. Thompson, your our hero, our manager, and our inspiration. Thanks to you we wouldn't been introduced into music.

*This girl :]*

Man, I just feel very special about this girl. She's like my soul mate. We have met since middle school, and well we got together for like 4 months . But then 1 year later she finds me on myspace, and well we started talking, and getting to know each other more, and more. I've seen another side of her, like the better side or her. I've never seen her since then. Then I settled a date, and I was so worried she will think something bad of me or ditch me, because when I was in Middle school I was a dud, but now I'm a rebellious, bass player, moh-hawk liker, misfits fan kind of guy. But she was truthful till' the end. My first reaction was her smile. :*******]. The look on her face made me smile and laugh. She brings me good memories instead of depressing ones. She is that one girl, and if she turns her back on me, I am just ripped into pieces. So this goes to the girl that changed my life. Veronica :]]]]]
